City-side resort, or water park?
Both are family all-inclusives. The day you'll have is very different.

Hyatt Ziva Cancun
Hyatt Ziva sits on the point at the top of Cancun's Hotel Zone, so it has two beaches: a calm cove facing Isla Mujeres and a beach on the open Caribbean. Its big advantage is location. Few all-inclusives let you walk out to the Hotel Zone's restaurants and nightlife, and it's still only about half an hour from the airport. Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun
Royalton Splash opened in December 2022 around one of the largest resort water parks in the Caribbean, open only to guests and day-pass holders. It's built for families, with 12 restaurants, a kids club and indoor games, and it's a Marriott Bonvoy resort. It's farther from Cancun's nightlife, which most families with young kids won't miss. Even though it's not adults only, it surprisingly can be fun for adults. I especially liked lounging and relaxing in the lazy rivers. It also has a waterpark with slides if you're adventurous.

Which is better for families?
Young kids: Royalton Splash. The water park and toddler splash zones will fill every day, and you won't need to leave the resort. Hyatt Ziva's kids club and water play area are good, but it isn't a water park.
Teens: it depends on the teen. Splash has slides, bowling and laser tag (some extra cost). Hyatt Ziva has a teen space and puts the Hotel Zone within walking distance, which older teens and parents may like for an evening out.
Families with grandparents along: consider a calmer Royalton next door to Splash instead; see Royalton Riviera Cancun vs. Royalton Splash.
Which is better for couples?
Hyatt Ziva Cancun, thanks to its adults-only Turquoize section and the nightlife nearby. For a completely adults-only Hyatt, look at Hyatt Zilara Cancun, about a mile south. Couples who'd rather be on the Royalton side can book Royalton Riviera Cancun's adults-only Hideaway, within walking distance of Splash.
Hyatt points or Marriott points?
Use the program you already have points and status in; that usually matters more than the resort.
- Hyatt Ziva Cancun (World of Hyatt): Category F on Hyatt's all-inclusive award chart, at 45,000 to 85,000 points a night for two in 2026. Award nights include food and drinks. Against the $610-a-night cash rate in our check, that's roughly 0.7 to 1.4 cents a point, a good deal on lower-priced award dates. Globalists don't pay resort fees on eligible stays.
- Royalton Splash (Marriott Bonvoy): award prices change by date, so compare them with the cash rate before you redeem. Elite benefits at all-inclusives can differ from city hotels, so check what your status includes.

What they cost
In our October 25 check on Booking.com for two adults on January 18–21, 2027, the cheapest room at Hyatt Ziva Cancun was about $1,830 for three nights (about $610 a night), and a Luxury Junior Suite at Royalton Splash was about $1,419 (about $473 a night). Both are before 16% VAT and a $4–$5 nightly environmental fee, and both had free cancellation. Christmas to early January and Easter are the most expensive weeks.
- Visitax: Quintana Roo's tourist tax for foreign visitors, about 280–300 Mexican pesos (roughly $15–$18) per person in 2026. Pay it online at the official Visitax site.
- Seaweed: sargassum can reach both resorts from about spring to early fall. It varies by year and by beach.
