A beautiful beach you can't swim at.

Plan on the pools, and you'll love it.

✓ No ocean swimming✓ 2025 renovation✓ Category E points
The short answer: Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos is worth it for families and couples who want a full all-inclusive in Cabo and are happy swimming in pools: the ocean in front of the resort is too rough for swimming. A $50 million renovation, finished in 2025, updated rooms, restaurants and the kids and teens clubs. In our check for three nights in February 2027, it was about $570 a night for two before tax, and it's Category E on Hyatt points (35,000–75,000 a night), cheaper in points than Hyatt Ziva Cancun.

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, the former Barceló Los Cabos, sits on a long beach in San José del Cabo, the quieter, more upscale end of Los Cabos. Its 2025 renovation redid all 248 rooms in Tower B, redesigned the lobby, added restaurants such as Mahika (Indian) and Farina e Olio (Italian), expanded the KidZ Club and opened a new Teens Club. One Hyatt guide calls it consistently one of the best-rated Hyatt Ziva resorts, with highly rated food and drinks.

Strengths

  • Freshly renovated rooms, lobby and restaurants.
  • Lots of dining choice for a week-long stay.
  • Real programs for both kids and teens.
  • Category E on Hyatt points, one step below the Cancun and Cap Cana Zivas.

Watch out for

  • No ocean swimming: the current and undertow are too strong.
  • Not every tower was part of the room renovation; ask for Tower B.
  • Little to walk to; downtown San José del Cabo is a short taxi ride.

Is Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos worth it?

Yes, if you go in knowing the beach is for walking and sunsets, not swimming. For a pool-centered all-inclusive trip with good food and something for every age, it's one of the strongest choices in Los Cabos, and its newly renovated rooms help. If swimming in the ocean is the point of your trip, look at resorts on Cabo's swimmable beaches, such as Médano Beach in Cabo San Lucas or the protected bays along the Tourist Corridor, like Chileno Bay and Santa María Bay.

Can you swim at the beach?

No. The resort says swimming and water sports aren't available because of the strong current and undertow, which is true of much of the coast around San José del Cabo. Respect the red flags. You'll spend your water time in the infinity pool, the adults-only pool and the mini water park instead.

Is it good for kids?

Yes. The KidZ Club was expanded in the renovation, teens have a new club of their own, and the mini water park has slides and a splash zone for younger children. Club swim-up rooms are for guests 13 and older, so families with younger kids should book a standard or Club room without a swim-up.

Points or cash?

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos is Category E on Hyatt's all-inclusive award chart: in 2026, a standard room for two costs 35,000 to 75,000 points a night, depending on the date, and award nights include food and drinks. Against the roughly $570-a-night cash price in our check, that's about 0.8 to 1.6 cents a point: good on lower-priced award dates, weak on the most expensive ones. World of Hyatt Globalists don't pay resort fees on eligible stays.
