The short answer: Royalton Bavaro is worth it for families and groups who want activities without a full water park: a long lazy river, a FlowRider, and clubs for kids and teens, right on the beach. It's a Marriott Bonvoy resort, and it was refreshed in fall 2026. In our check for three nights in January 2027, a junior suite for two came to about $490 a night, taxes included. If you want a real water park, look at Royalton Splash Punta Cana instead.

Royalton Bavaro opened in 2018 on Arena Gorda, a quieter stretch north of central Bávaro. Its signature is a 1,200-foot lazy river that winds through the grounds, plus a FlowRider for surfing and bodyboarding. There's a lot of choice for a week-long stay, with 12 restaurants and 9 bars.

Strengths

  • Activities for older kids. The lazy river, FlowRider and a teens club keep tweens and teens busy.
  • Right on the beach, on a less crowded stretch than central Bávaro.
  • Plenty of dining choice, and most restaurants don't need a reservation.
  • Freshly refreshed rooms, pools and restaurants as of November 2026.
  • Marriott Bonvoy points and status, as part of the Autograph Collection.

Watch out for

  • No water park. For slides, you'll want Royalton Splash Punta Cana.
  • The FlowRider costs extra unless you book Diamond Club.
  • Expect pitches for vacation clubs, and beach vendors.
  • Little to walk to outside the resort.

Is Royalton Bavaro worth it?

For families with kids old enough to enjoy the lazy river and FlowRider, yes. It's on the beach, has plenty to do, and the fall 2026 refresh means rooms and pools should feel newer than at older Royaltons. Couples who want quiet should look at Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana, and groups who want a party should look at Royalton CHIC; see which Royalton in Punta Cana to book.

Does Royalton Bavaro have a water park?

No. It has the lazy river, the FlowRider and a splash pad for small children. The Royalton water park is at Royalton Splash Punta Cana, a few minutes' drive away. Some guests have been able to use it from Bavaro, but that can change, so ask the resort before you book if a water park day matters to you.

Is it good for kids?

Yes, especially for school-age kids and teens. The kids club takes ages 4–12 and the teens club ages 13–17, and the lazy river is a hit with every age. Toddlers have the splash pad but less else, and babysitting costs extra.

Is Diamond Club worth it?

At Royalton Bavaro, Diamond Club adds a butler, a private pool and beach area, lounge access and free FlowRider sessions, which matters if your family plans to surf. It's most worth it in busy weeks, when the private pool is a relief from the main ones. Compare the price for your dates against a standard junior suite.
